Artist Statement

Over the past 14 years, I have been exploring the artistic potential of everyday “stuff”. I enjoy working these raw materials with the geeky intensity of a Rubik’s cube puzzle master; relishing the challenge of finding new meaning for objects that have become banal. My process involves what I call the “craft sciences”; which simply describes a high emphasis on finish, the elevation of low materials and the traditional craft arts (scrap booking, etc.), while employing the scientific method of hypothesis and experimentation. In this manner, I try to reveal something about the material’s original function that will inform its new shape and content.
